Pandan Island Resort
and Dive Camp
Pandan Island, Sablayan,
Occidental Mindoro:
Pandan
is a 16 hectare private tropical island with white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and
colorful corals. The resort only occupies a small part of the island, most of it is
covered by a dense jungle with abundant wildlife. The eastern half of the island was
established as a marine reserve in 1994. Thanks to a strict no fishing and "hands
off" (divers and snorkelers) policy, the variety and density of the marine life is
just astonishing.
Under French management, the resort can accommodate 50 persons in its different kinds of
bungalows: family house, standard bungalows with private bathroom, and budget
rooms with common toilet and shower. All rooms are built with native materials (bamboo,
sawali, cogon) which are in harmony with the style of the island. The restaurant
offers buffet meals and a beach bar is open 24 hours.
The dive sites around the island vary from shallow coral gardens to deep
drop offs on the north side, ideal for all levels of divers.
Pandan Island is the closest dive operator to the famous Apo Reef and is
established as the leading diveshop organizing dive safaris to the reef. This forty square
kilometers big atoll, the biggest in the Philippines, offers
uncountable dive sites and a good chance to see sharks and other pelagics, turtles are
also very common.
Pandan can be reached by air, with daily flights from Manila to San Jose followed by a 3
hour transfer to the island. You can also cross by boat from Batangas to Abra de Ilog and
by land down to Sablayan.
